FAQs

We love helping customers understand what we do. There is a technical side to the carpet repair business and you should be informed before you hire us or anyone else to come into your home to provide services. Below are a few of the most common questions our customers have asked us

1. Do I have to move all the furniture in the room in order for you to re-stretch it?

Unfortunately…yes. The only way we can re-stretch your carpet is when there is nothing weighing it down. Furniture that’s left on the carpet also creates stress points in the carpet, damaging it and contributing to the very bumps, wrinkles, and ripples we are trying to fix. When we re-stretch, we can re-set the carpet on the tack strips then cut off any extra carpet at the wall. Tip: while your furniture’s in the next room, why not get us to clean the carpet too—between the re-stretching AND the cleaning, it’s going to look like you’ve gotten new carpet. (Note: unable to move the furniture yourself? No problem, we can recommend someone to do it for you).

2. How do you fix a hole in the carpet?

There are reasons why you keep extra pieces of your carpet somewhere in your home. It’s for repairing holes and other types of damage. You call them patches, but in the carpet repair industry a “patch” is called a “permanent section.” We skillfully remove the damaged part of your carpet and replace it with a permanent section, so it looks as if it’s been there all along. Tip: Don’t store carpet remnants in your attic or garage. The heat quickly ruins the carpet, making it unsuitable for repairs. (Note: as a courtesy to our customers all our trucks are stocked with pieces of new carpet in common weights and thicknesses. If you don’t have spare carpet remnant on hand, we have an inexpensive and quick solution).

3. “I need a piece of carpet to replace a spot on the carpet my cat scratched. Can I buy a piece of new carpet from my favorite carpet store like Home Depot or Lowe’s?

You can, but the chances it’s going to match are really slim– even if it’s the same kind of carpet. Here’s why: Carpet is made at a carpet mill in a dye lot. Each dye lot is slightly different, which means it’s nearly impossible to find an exact match. Look at the photos below—both are tan, but distinctively different from each other. Same kind of carpet, but from different dye lots. If we were to take that sorta-kinda similar piece of carpet and make a bonded insert of it, it would really stand out from the surrounding carpet—when we really want it to look like it’s been there all along. What we prefer to do instead is to use a piece of your original carpet you might have saved as remnants or take a piece of carpet from an inconspicuous spot in your home—the back corner of a closet, for instance.

4. “After you repair my carpet, will it be noticeable to me and others that you patched a piece of newer carpet into the rest of the room?

We work really hard to make damaged carpet as seamless a “fix” as possible. Sometimes a carpet repair is seamless. Sometimes it may be slightly noticeable. How “noticeable” a permanent section may be when finished depends on a few factors:

Condition of the carpet over-all
Location of the damage/repair
Availability of “matching” carpet from which to cut an insert
Carpet repairs are a fraction of the cost of carpet replacement, thus our motto, “Don’t replace it, repair it!”

5. Is there a warranty on the carpet repair?

Yes!  We provide a warranty on our carpet repairs which is valid until the carpet is 10 years old.  Once the carpet reaches 10 years old, the warranty voids.  If we perform a repair on carpet that is 10 years old or more, we are unable to give a repair warranty.  The backing of carpet will begin to fail at this age and carpet repairs rely greatly on the strength of the carpet backing.

6. Is there a warranty on the carpet power stretching service?

Yes! Carpet stretching labor is warrantied for two years from the date of service.  Warranty is void if the carpet is 10 years old or more.  This warranty will stay with our customer and cannot be transferred. Some things that can void this warranty are over-wetting the carpet, not having your carpet cleaned by an IICRC professional, a flood, and leaving the thermostat above 85 degrees, or furniture being in the room when we stretch the carpet.  Our technicians are skilled and trained to recognize these scenarios. If the carpet is cleaned, customer must be able to produce a receipt by an IICRC Certified Carpet Cleaning company to stay within the warranty terms.
